ART INSPIRATION

The original artwork is inspired in one of the most iconic landsmarks of Scotland: the Eilean Donan castle.

The MacRaes family once guarded it fiercely, but after the clans were suppressed in the 18th century the castle fell into ruin. In 1912, Lt Col John and Ella MacRae Gilstrap bought and rebuilt the castle, adding a bridge to the mainland. Now it's open to the public becoming soon one of most visited spots of Scotland.

It gained a lot popularity after being featured in the movie Highlander.

This painting is a part of a commissioned double of by a couple whose ancestors were from Norway and Scotland. They wanted to feel more connected to their origins, so they commissioned me to paint two artworks, being "Scotland" one of them.

They gifted to each other as a wedding present in 2022.
